Make sure to add analytics code to Wordpress themes
Posted on June 10th, 2008 in Geek Stuff, This Blog, Web Development
I ran into something today that made me stop and think that I am not really as smart as I want or need to be. It is something that is easily overlooked for most people but should always be a priority for bloggers or developer’s that make blog themes.
Worse yet, it is something that I have ran across before but completely forgot about since.
The issue is my Google analytics code that I put onto my blog to track various items associated with my blog traffic. See, I changed my theme a couple of days ago and totally forgot that the theme I changed to did not have my analytics code in it.
In fact, none of the themes that I use, except the ones I designed myself, have the analytics code in it.
I need to fix that. And I want to think of a sensible way to do that. In the meantime, however, learn a lesson from my idiocy. Whenever you move to a new Wordpress theme, take a minute to port your analytics code over.
Unless, of course, you want to see huge gaping holes in your statistical data for your blog.
