Happy Mother’s Day

I know a lot of us could easily insert our own name, title or profession into the statement "A ________'s work is never done". But of all the titles this could apply to, none are more appropriate than that of mother.

A mother is constantly working, even when she isn't awake. Mother's seem to always have their children, their families and their homes on their minds and can often be seen drifting off into space sometimes when their minds start to tackle all of the things on a mother's to-do list at the drop of a hat at any time of any day.

Mothers make sure the home functions properly, that the kids are healthy and tended to, that dad is taken care of, that homework is done, that dishes are clean, that dinner is made... the list can go on forever. Mothers also are the level head in sometimes turbulent families and can usually be seen moderating, with sensitivity and gentleness, the more complex issues of the family dynamic. They are the glue of a family and work tirelessly to keep things together and in order.

Mothers are often the budget managers of the home in addition to being the general manage of the home. And many mothers take on this role even though they are working full time to provide for their homes. In a world of dirty, thankless, tiring jobs, I'd say that being a mother ranks up there toward the top.

And because of that, I want to take a few seconds this morning to say thank you to all mothers everywhere, especially for the mother of our home, my wife Sandi. As often as you go overlooked, as often as your day ends without a thank you, as often as you are defied and as often as your patience is tested it is my wish that you are also reminded form time to time that without you the world would not work properly. Homes would fall apart. Families would struggle.

Mothers are the very core of a family, and because of you mom, yes, I'm talking to you, all families are made better each day. Thank you so very much for putting in the effort every day to be the best at your job that you can be and for making sure that life is livable for the rest of us.

Insanity: Day 56 – Rest

Oh good God I need some rest today. I am so tired and so sore. And I don't think it's from my workout yesterday, though it could be since it was a new workout yesterday working out new muscle groups in new ways. I think it is a combination of our workout, all of the running around we did yesterday and the late night exercise we had moving props and such around.

Whatever the case, I am tired. And sore. And I am so taking advantage of this rest day. At least until Sandi wakes up, when my work for today will really start as I tend to her every motherly need with the kids. ;)

Enjoy your rest today, especially if you are a mother. Mother's work harder than anyone I have ever known. If there was ever a day to be deserved for honor, Mother's day is it.

My Diet for May 8, 2010

Today was an indescribably busy day today. Which actually sort of helped my diet. I was able to get up early enough to workout and rest. That left me a little time to prepare my breakfast which honestly required no preparation at all since it was only cereal. After breakfast we left the house to take care of some things that needed to be done for the play my children are going to be performing next weekend.

We were on a time budget today since my kids also had a dress rehearsal today for their play. They had to be in Hayward by 1:30 PM so we had to get home from our morning errands, get them fed, get snacks packed and get moving out the door. Because we pushed our time boundaries pretty far for the morning errands this left little time to do all of this stuff and eat a proper lunch. So I put together two eggs on corn tortillas and topped them with Trader Joe's Chipotle Salsa. They were filling and delicious, and most of all very nutritious.

Dinner was all mine tonight. I left the dress rehearsal early so I could pick up some groceries, come home, wash some dishes that were piling up and get to cooking dinner. I made pan grilled chicken seasoned with no-salt all purpose seasoning, white potatoes with caramelized white onion and mixed veggies for dinner. In total, for any serving of dinner, there was less than 100 mg of sodium and less than 350 calories. Plus it was tasty. It was so delicious in fact that there were no leftovers at all, save for one chicken breast.

As soon as dinner was done I was out the door to head to San Jose with Rebekah to help pick up props and set items for the play. We had to load them up and drive them to Hayward where they had to be unloaded, inventoried and stored at the church where the play is being performed. In all I was out of the house from 8:00 tonight until a little after 11:00. Needless to say, when I got home, I was a little hungry so I snacked on some more Trader Joe's No Salt Tortilla chips before calling it a night.
